Phlebotomy Workshop

Background
The goal of the Phlebotomy Workshop is to minimise errors that may cause any harm to patients, either directly or indirectly. This can be achieved when a qualified and certified Phlebotomist establishes, implements and practices quality control on his own work.
Aim
The workshop also aim to reduce the number of unacceptable specimens, especially due to clotting and haemolysis, misdiagnoses example high potassium of haemolysis vs. true hyper kalaemia, delays in diagnoses, and not to mention the extra costs incurred due to repetition of sepciment collection and possible litigations.

This program also helps to provide continuing learning opportunities and educate medical assistants, nursing, and laboratory person– nel as well as young medical practitioners and assists the organization in improving specimen quality and safe collection. practices.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES
At the end of this workshop, participants should be able to:
- Appreciate the value of standard in the correct technique of venipuncture, micro sampling and transport of blood samples.
- Minimise errors that may cause any harms to patients, either directly or indirectly.
- Reduce the number of unacceptable specimens.
- Demonstrate the importance of standard practice on phlebotomy procedure to prevent any complication.
