PROGRAMME OVERVIEW
Graduate Certificate in Cardiovascular & Thoracic Sciences (GCCVTS) programme is a skill-based higher learning programme that implement a ONE (1) year fulltime academic calendar with THREE (3) semesters. This programme is approved by the Ministry of Higher Education (R2/721/6/0030) and accredited by Malaysian Qualifying Agency (A 8975) is being offered by IJN College since 2008. Graduates are well recognized and capable to undertake specialized professional employment in any healthcare fraternity globally.
There are four major disciplines offered in this programme:
- Cardiovascular Technology (CVT)
- Cardiovascular Imaging (CVI)
- Perfusion Technology (PT)
- Peri-operative Nursing (PON)
Each four major disciplines carries 39 credit hours in this one-year programme. The practical and clinical placement (training) is fully conducted at Institut Jantung Negara (IJN), supervised by preceptors who are trained professionals in their respective specialized clinical areas.
IJN College welcomes application from Trainees Cardiac Lab Technologist, Radiographers, Nurses, Lab Technologist, Bio-medical Sciences Graduates and Medical Assisstants who are interested to specialize in the above relevant discipline.
PROGRAMME OBJECTIVES
Upon Completion of this programme, graduates will be able to:
- Excel in knowledge, cognitive skills in cardiovascular and thoracic sciences and other healthcare and related disciplines in line with global centre of excellence in cardiovascular and thoracic care requirement nationally and internationally
- Master effective cardiovascular and thoracic sciences and other healthcare and related disciplines practice skills that include communication skills, interpersonal skills, digital skill, numeric skill, leadership, autonomy and responsibility in the hospital and the community health care setting
- Execute entrepreneurship skills confidently whilst recognizing the need of lifelong learning, using broad range of information, media and technology applications for successful career advancement.
- Expert in providing cardiovascular and thoracic sciences and other healthcare and related disciplines skills ethically and professionally in the hospital and the community health care setting.
Entry Requirement
LOCAL STUDENT & INTERNATIONAL APPLICANT
1. Cardiovascular Technology (CVT)
- Diploma/Bachelor Degree in Medical Laboratory Technology/Medical Assistants/Biomedical Sciences/Nursing
- One (1) year working experience in related fields
2. Cardiovascular Imaging (CVI)
- Diploma/Bachelor Degree in Radiography/Medical Imaging
- One (1) year working experience in related fields
3. Perfusion Technology (PT)
- Diploma/Bachelor Degree in Biomedicine/Nursing Certificate
- One (1) year working experience in related fields
4. Peri-Operative Nursing (PON)
- Diploma/Bachelor Degree in Nursing
- One (1) year working experience in related fields
COMPULSORY
Credit in Malay Language at SPM/SPMV level for local applicants
Minimum score of 5.5 in ELTS or its equivalent for (international applicants)
