Summary

Occupational safety and health is an area concerned with protecting the safety, health and welfare of people at workplace. The aim of occupational safety and health programs is to provide students with fundamental theoretical knowledge and skills in occupational safety and health including fostering a safe and healthy work environment and enabling them to make changes in the way safety and health initiatives are implemented in the workplace.  This program also helps to broaden their skill set to meet the increasing demands of the OSH industry whereby the government has always sought to ensure occupational safety and health standards are constantly reviewed and developed to keep pace with current needs. The Occupational Safety & Health Act 1994 requires industries to employ competent safety and health officer to resolve matters related to workplace safety and health. The dedicated group of safety and health officers is responsible for administering and enforcing statutory requirements, making technical advice plus providing safety and health education and awareness.

The objectives of programme are:

  • To produce professional and knowledgeable graduates capable of discharging duties effectively and ethically in line with the needs of the industries and stakeholders.
  • To develop students with effective communication skills and good leadership quality in organization and social community.
  • To produce graduates who are capable of managing and handling OSH issues in teams at workplace with scientific knowledge and problem-solving skills.
  • To engage in lifelong learning, entrepreneurial and continuous personal professional development and responsive towards community and environment with regards to safety and health.
Entry Requirement

Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM)

PASS in Bahasa Malaysia and English and THREE (3) credits (Grade C) in the following subjects:

  • Mathematics or ONE (1) science subject (Biology/Physics/Chemistry/General Science); and
  • Any other TWO (2) subjects (including Bahasa Malaysia and/or English)

    GCE/O-Level or equivalent

    PASS in Bahasa Malaysia and English and THREE (3) credits (Grade C) in the following subjects:

    • Mathematics or ONE (1) science subject (Biology/Physics/Chemistry/General Science); and
    • Any other TWO (2) subjects (including Bahasa Malaysia and/or English)

      Other certificate 

      • Certificate related to Health Sciences with minimum CGPA 2.50.
