On 12 April 2025, IJN College proudly hosted SignScript 2.0: Bridging Communication in Pharmacy, an educational initiative organized by the Pharmacy Club, with participation from 70 students across the Pharmacy and Physiotherapy programs.
This half-day event featured an engaging and insightful session by Mr. Mohd Firdaus Abdullah, a registered pharmacist from University Malaya Medical Centre, who led the workshop on basic sign language skills relevant to the healthcare setting.
The primary goal of SignScript 2.0 was to equip future healthcare professionals with practical tools to communicate effectively with OKU (persons with disabilities), especially those who are deaf or hard of hearing. The session focused on everyday pharmacy-related sign language vocabulary, such as how to explain medication instructions, dosage, and simple patient queries.
By learning to bridge this communication gap, students not only enhanced their clinical competency but also deepened their sense of empathy and social responsibility. In today’s increasingly inclusive healthcare landscape, the ability to communicate with patients of all backgrounds and abilities is more than a skill—it is a necessity.

SignScript 2.0 reflects IJN College’s commitment to preparing well-rounded healthcare professionals who are not only knowledgeable but also compassionate and inclusive in their approach to care.
We thank Mr. Mohd Firdaus Abdullah for his generous contribution and impactful delivery, and we applaud all participating students for embracing the value of inclusive communication in healthcare.
