Six months ago, the Psychology Program at IJN College embarked on a significant initiative by visiting the National Cancer Society Malaysia (NCSM). Today, we are thrilled to announce that this collaboration has evolved into our first official partnership with NCSM.
NCSM representatives, led by Ms. Puteri, hosted a full-day training session for our students, preparing them to become volunteers for NCSM’s community health programs. The students spent the first half of the day learning about NCSM’s wide-ranging efforts to promote cancer awareness and health education across Malaysia.
Following a break for Jumaah prayers, the students participated in hands-on training, acquiring practical skills essential for volunteering with NCSM. These included:
- Measuring blood pressure
- Conducting breast self-examinations
- Drawing blood for Hepatitis testing
- Using a breathalyzer to measure carbon monoxide levels in smokers
Ms. Puteri and her team kept the students highly engaged with interactive Q&A sessions, fostering a lively and competitive atmosphere as students raced to answer questions and apply their newfound skills. In a special moment, some students even performed blood tests and blood pressure readings on the Head of Program.
By the end of the day, students expressed a profound appreciation for the value of knowledge and practical skills in making a difference as healthcare volunteers. This collaboration marks the first of many, with future training sessions planned for students from other programs.
At IJN College, we look forward to building more impactful partnerships and continuing our commitment to community health and wellness.
