On August 1 and 2, the Student Development Division (SDD) and the Student Representative Council (SRC) came together to host a comprehensive and engaging orientation program for the July 2024 intake students. The event marked the beginning of a new academic journey for our freshers and set the tone for an enriching student experience at our institution.
A Warm Welcome and an Engaging Start
The orientation program aimed to provide the new students with a warm welcome and a solid foundation for their academic and social life on campus. Held over two days, the event was meticulously planned to ensure that every new student felt included, informed, and inspired.
Day 1: Introduction to Campus Life
The first day of orientation kicked off with a welcome address from key members of the SDD and SRC. Their speeches emphasized the importance of community, collaboration, and the numerous opportunities available to students throughout their time here. Following the speeches, students participated in a campus tour, which familiarized them with important locations such as the library, student center, and various academic buildings. This tour was guided by senior students, who shared their personal experiences and tips for navigating campus life.
Interactive Sessions and Workshops
The orientation program featured a variety of interactive sessions and workshops designed to equip students with essential skills and knowledge. Topics ranged from academic success strategies and time management to mental health awareness and extracurricular involvement. The sessions were led by experienced faculty members and student leaders, ensuring that the new students received valuable insights from multiple perspectives.
Day 2: Building Connections and Community
The second day focused on fostering connections among the new students. Ice-breaking activities and team-building exercises were organized to help students get to know each other and form lasting friendships. These activities were not only fun but also crucial for building a supportive and inclusive campus community.
Resources and Support Services
Throughout the orientation, the SDD and SRC highlighted the various resources and support services available to students. From academic advising and career services to health and wellness programs, students were introduced to the wide range of support systems in place to help them succeed. Information booths and one-on-one consultations were available, allowing students to ask questions and gather information tailored to their individual needs.
The Role of SDD and SRC
The Student Development Division (SDD) plays a pivotal role in enhancing the overall student experience. By organizing events like the orientation program, the SDD ensures that students are well-prepared to thrive academically, socially, and personally. The Student Representative Council (SRC), on the other hand, acts as the voice of the student body. The SRC advocates for student needs and interests, making sure that the student perspective is considered in institutional decisions.
Looking Ahead
As the orientation program concluded, the new students expressed their excitement and gratitude for the warm welcome and valuable information they received. The two-day event not only equipped them with essential tools for success but also instilled a sense of belonging and community. The SDD and SRC are committed to continuing their support for these students throughout their academic journey, ensuring that they have a fulfilling and rewarding experience at our institution.
