OVERVIEW

The BLS Instructor Essentials Course teaches information needed to in- struct AHA’s BLS for Healthcare Providers and Heartsaver® classroom courses and to conduct skills practice and skills testing sessions for BLS for Healthcare Providers and Heartsaver eLearning courses.

Aim

ACLS is designed for healthcare professionals who either direct or participate in the management of cardiopulmonary arrest and other cardiovascular emergencies. This includes personnel in emergency response, emergency medicine, intensive care and critical units

Training Objectives

At the end of this course, the participants should be able to

  • Apply the Basic Life Support (BLS), Primary and Secondary Assessment sequences for a systematic evaluation of adult patients
  • Perform prompt, high -quality BLS, including prioritizing early chest compressions and integrating early automated external debrillator (AED) use
  • Recognize respiratory arrest
  • Perform early management of respiratory arrest
  • Discuss early recognition and management of ACS, including appropriate disposition
  • Discuss early recognition and management of stroke, including appropriate disposition
  • Recognize bradyarrhythmias and tachyarrhythmias that may result in cardiac arrest of complicate resuscitation outcome
  • Perform early management of bradyarrhythmias and tachyarrhytmias that may result in cardiac arrest or complicate resuscitation outcome
  • Recognize cardiac arrest
  • Perform early management or cardiac arrest until termination of resuscitation or transfer of care, including immediate post -cardiac arrest care
  • Evaluate resuscitative efforts during a cardiac arrest through continuous assessment of cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) quality, monitoring the patient’s physiologic response, and delivering real-time feedback to the team
  • Model effective communication as a member or leader of a high performance team
recognize the impact of team dynamics on overall team performance
Training Structure

ACLS Provider Course includes practice learning stations and a Megacode evaluation station.

The practice learning stations give an opportunity for students to actively participate in a variety of learning activities, including:

  • Simulated clinical scenarios
  • Demonstrations by instructors or video
  • Discussion and role playing
  • Practice in effective high performance team behavior

In these learning stations, students will practice essential skills both individually and as part of a high performance team. This course emphasizes effective team skills as a vital part of the resuscitative effort. Students will have the opportunity to practice as a member and as a leader of a high performance team.

At the end of the course, students will participate in a Megacode evaluation station to validate the achievement of the course objectives. A simulated cardiac arrest scenario will evaluate the following:

  • Knowledge of core case material and skills
  • Knowledge of algorithms
  • Use of appropriate basic ACLS drug therapy
  • Performance as an effective leader of a high performance team
Prerequisite
  • Valid BLS License

  • Taken the ACLS Pre -Test (Online) and pass with minimum score of 70%

Methodology
  •   Face-to-face classroom teaching

  •   Video

  •   Practical

  •   Assessment theoretical/practical
